Laraaji - Universe

LaraaJi Venus Nadabrahmananda(LVN) has performed in USA and abroad since late 1970’s with his innovative style of electric open tuned zither/harp. After studying piano, music theory & composition at Howard University School of Fine Arts in Washington , DC during the mid 1960’s he became inspired to move to New York city to follow his passion for both musical sound composition and comedy acting. After mild success in theatre, film, TV commercials and night club performance he investigated eastern philosophy, meditation and meta-physics, an investigation which initiated his creative expression into cosmic themes and vibrant new musical tone language.
From Busking in New York City during the late 1970's into early 1980's, to performing improvisational compositions on concert stage, to collaborations within interdisciplinary artist events, to Spirit Festivals, to Yoga Expos and to many recording sessions he has brought an inspiring non-traditional Zither musical sound that has captivated a peaceful global following.

Dice la Wikipedia:
Laraaji (born 1943) is an American musician. Born Edward Larry Gordon in Philadelphia, he studied violin, piano, trombone and voice in his early years in New Jersey. He attended Howard University, a historically black university in Washington, D.C. on a scholarship to study composition and piano. After studying at Howard, he spent time in New York pursuing a career as a stand-up comedian and actor.
In the early seventies he began to study Eastern mysticism and believed he'd found a new path for his music and his life. It was also at this time he bought his first zither from a local pawn shop. Converting it to an electronic instrument, he began to experiment using the instrument like a piano. By 1978, he developed enough skill to begin busking in the parks and on the sidewalks of New York.
The following year he was "discovered" by Brian Eno while playing in Washington Square Park. The result was his most widely-recognized release, Ambient 3: Day of Radiance, the third installment of Brian Eno's Ambient series. This was his first album released under the name of Laraaji.
This international exposure led to many requests for longer versions of his compositions which he supplied to many meditation groups on cassette tapes. It also resulted in an expansion of his mystic studies with such gurus as Swami Satchidananda and Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, founder of the Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York.
Another product of Laraaji's increasing enlightenment was the creation of the Laughter Meditation Workshops which he still presents around the globe.

I discovered Laraaji in the late 1980's through my friend Victor and through an awesome music store called Precision Audio. Laraaji's collaboration with Brian Eno's Ambient series just blew me away, I just love his cosmic ambient sound.  It is extremely original and defies classification.  Check out this live performance. I mean, Laraaji+Dublab, a superb combination!

Laraaji is a true life enhancer. His solo sound offerings and those alongside collaborators such as Brian Eno have been a great inspiration to us at dublab. Laraaji’s decades long celestial sonic flow experiments have recently been seeing new light with several reissued albums from All Saints Records, a collaboration with Blues Control for the RVNG Intl. Frkwys series, and an appearance onLight in the Attic and Ethereal Sequence’s epic New Age survey I Am the Center. We’re thrilled that so many ears have been freshly discovering his music.
With the intention of turning on more ears to Laraaji’s music we collaborated with our friends Cinespia, to proudly present anintimate concert and Laughter Meditation Playshop with this New Age pioneer at Cinefamily. See some photos here. During his visit we were blessed to have Laraaji and his partner Arji graced the dublab studio for a live “Sprout Session.” Their offering was a pure expression of joyous sound waves that we are honored to share with you now.
