This ... Is The Show: Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, the singer and electronic artist behind the music of Sylvan Esso, join All Songs Considered hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton to play some of their favorite songs by other musicians. There's jazz from The Lounge Lizards, Icelandic experimentalists Múm, Kendrick Lamar's "Hood Politics" and much more. In fact, they brought so much great stuff to hear, we never had a chance to play any of Sylvan Esso's own music. But you can you can hear plenty in our archives, including a fantastic Tiny Desk concert.

Bob and Robin were in NPR's D.C. studios and the band was at WUNC, in its home base of Durham, N.C. The distance meant we couldn't see them and they couldn't see us. That's not unusual, but what was unusual is how technology seemed to fail us. So as our conversation unfolded — or attempted to unfold — things fell apart pretty quickly, which made for some awkward, albeit funny, moments.

Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry VIII (Full Album 1973)

The Six Wives of Henry VIII is the first studio album from the English keyboardist and composer Rick Wakeman as a solo artist, released in January 1973 on A&M Records. It is an instrumentalprogressive rock album with its concept based on his interpretations of the musical characteristics of the six wives of Henry VIII. Wakeman decided on the concept in 1972 while he toured the United States with the progressive rock band Yes. As he read a book about the wives on his travels, melodies he wrote the previous year came to him and were noted down. Musicians from Yes and Strawbs, who he performed with prior to Yes, also play on the album.

The album received generally positive reviews from music critics. It reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart and number 30 on the US Billboard 200. It was certified gold in 1975 by the Recording Industry Association of America and has sold 15 million copies worldwide. In 2009, Wakeman performed the album live for the first time at Hampton Court Palace for the 500th anniversary of Henry's accession to the throne. Each track was re-scored with added elements that could not be there due to time restrictions on the vinyl record.

A prolific, prodigiously talented artist, Susumu Yokota was responsible for over thirty albums between 1993 and 2012, exploring the worlds of acid techno, trance, ambient, downtempo and beyond. 

After a period of ill health, Yokota passed away in March 2015 at the age of 54. 

This Bandcamp collects his Skintone releases, through The Leaf Label and Lo Recordings.

What were you doing this time 46 years ago? It was 1969, and for Daniele Baldelli he'd just started DJing, at a time when DJing as we understand it today didn't exist. It's obviously incredible that the Italian artist is still active today, and equally incredible that he's as busy as ever, playing regularly around Europe and America and releasing high quality music like this year's Cosmic Drag LP on Mule Musiq. The foundations for Baldelli's longevity were established through two key club residencies in the late '70s and early '80s. The first was at Baia Degli Angeli, a club that was thought of as the Italian equivalent of Studio 54. Baldelli followed in the footsteps of the highly influential Baia residents Tom Sison and Bob Day by mixing with imported disco records, a new and unique proposition for the Italian scene. Baldelli was technical perfectionist who was known to privately play 200 tracks into one to see which fitted best. Following Baia's closure, Baldelli took a gig at a club called Cosmic in Lake Garda. He'd already begun to experiment with different styles of music at Baia, but at Cosmic he truly went for it. His sets became a maze of African music, disco, psychedelic rock, krautrock and dub, often played at the wrong speed, a flourish that only added to the deeply weird style Baldelli became famous for.

SOAK: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

The opening line of SOAK's debut album — "A teenage heart is an unguided dart" — contains the first words I heard from 19-year-old singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson. Now, she's bringing that fragile, pure, thickly Irish-accented voice to the Tiny Desk.

Before We Forgot How To Dream, SOAK's debut, is one of my favorite albums of 2015. Monds-Watson's songs are about growing up and trying to understand adults and friends and life; though they're quiet, they aren't dour. They can be funny and smart, atmospheric and delicate — so much more than might be expected from a lone Irish teenager with an acoustic guitar.

Camel - Chord Change

Moonmadness is an album released in March 1976 by English progressive rock band Camel. It was their fourth album and the last to feature the band's original line-up (Latimer, Bardens, Ferguson, Ward). After the success of the tightly structured, instrumental The Snow Goose in 1975, the band added vocals to their music again.

The album has an overall theme, just as their previous one did, but does not follow a storyline since it is mostly based on the band members themselves. As written in the CD Booklet: Overall, the tracks comprising the album were conceived as a loose concept based on the individual personalities that made up Camel; "Air Born" about Andrew Latimer, "Lunar Sea" about Andy Ward, "Chord Change" about Peter Bardens and "Another Night" about Doug Ferguson. The cover was designed by Field.

The last song on the album, "Lunar Sea", ends with a minute-long wind-blowing effect. On some LP pressings, the record arm would skip during the end of this part and naturally return to the beginning of the effect, playing it endlessly (the "terminal groove" effect).^{[citation needed]}

In the Q & Mojo Classic Special Edition Pink Floyd & The Story of Prog Rock, the album came number 23 in its list of "40 Cosmic Rock Albums".^[4]

It was voted no. 58 in the Top 100 Prog albums of All Time by readers of 'Prog' magazine in 2014.

The Buggles - We Can Fly From Here Parts 1&2

La canción "We Can Fly From Here" tiene una historia extraordinaria. Fue originalmente un composición de la banda de new wave británica The Buggles en 1980. Poco después sus dos miembros- Geoff Downes y Trevor Horn- se unieron a la banda de rock progresivo Yes y grabaron el disco Drama. El grupo adoptó la canción pero no la grabaron para Drama, sin embargo la tocaron en la gira.

Al final de 1980 Horn y Downes se retiraron de Yes y grabaron un segundo disco como The Buggles, titulado Adventures in Modern Recording, para el cual grabaron su versión de "We Can Fly From Here", que es la que tienen en el enlace de Youtube arriba. La canción no fue incluida en el disco por ser muy larga y hubo que esperar hasta que en 2010 el disco fuera relanzado como CD con esta canción incluida. Para ese tiempo Downes regresó a Yes tras 30 años de ausencia y en 2011 se les unió Horn, esta vez como productor. Para el disco que hicieron decidieron rescatar "We Can Fly From Here" del olvido y la reconstruyeron, haciendo de ella una pieza épica de más de 20 minutos. El disco lo titularon Fly From Here.
