Yes - Run Through The Light

“Run Through the Light” by Yes is a beautiful and unusual track from Drama, definitely the band's oddest album. Released in 1980, Drama is the first Yes album done without founding member and lead singer Jon Anderson, the first one to have Geoff Downes on keyboards, and the only one to feature Trevor Horn on lead vocals  At that point, bassist Chris Squire became the only remaining founding member and the only one to have participated in all of the group's recordings and tours until then.

“Run Through the Light” is unique and unusual in the band's 40 year history for two reasons. First, it is the first Yes track ever to feature someone other than Chris Squire on bass, and the only Yes track which had Trevor Horn playing that instrument in Squire's stead. Second, the handiwork of session assistant Hugh Pagdham is particularly evident in this track. Pagdham would in later years become famous for producing for Phil Collins and Genesis, and is credited with developing Collins' famous gated drum sound. Just check out Allan White's drum sound in this track.

The instrumental towards the end of this song is one of the group's finest moments.

This is a live set by one of dublab’s extended family bands Languis. They came by the old dublab studio back in 2006 and performed some songs live from their “The Four Walls” release that came out back in 2005 on Plug Research. This performance catches the band in one of their last periods as a duo, soon after this set they went on to add two more members and their sound evolved towards a shoegaze/space rock style.

While the electronic spectrum is full of producers that could be described as unique, Jerome LOL is someone who truly marches to the beat of his own drum. It's been more than a year since his shape-shifting former outfit, LOL Boys, went on what has seemingly become a permanent hiatus, and in that time, the LA-based artist and co-founder of the ascendant Body High label has maintained his undeniably meta sense of humor and continued to build an identity based around various web tropes and an affinity for the aesthetics of the internet's early days. However, he's also established himself as a skilled producer of washy, emotive, and slow-grooving house, albeit a variant that also includes plenty of nods to (and outright appropriation of) contemporary Top 40. Following a series of self-released singles—which were later compiled and mixed on a limited-edition cassette—Jerome LOL will finally be issuing his first official EP, Deleted/Fool, next week via the Friends of Friends label. The four-track effort is currently streaming online, but we were curious to hear more, which is why we asked Jerome LOL to put together this week's XLR8R podcast.

FM was a late 1970's progressive rock trio from Toronto. They were the opening act in the first rock concert I ever went to: Saga's 1981 gig in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This song and video combine two nerdy passions of mine: progressive rock and science fiction.
