Actress at XLR8R

I've only recently discovered XLR8R. Don't know what its name means. All I know is they have some superb DJ sets, which were one of my motivations for starting this blog in the first place. The DJ set in the above link is particularly good. Here is what the folks at XLR8R have to say:

Every Tuesday morning, XLR8R presents the latest installment of its podcast series, highlighting an exclusive mix from an artist whose work has piqued our interest in some way. Having posted more than 300 podcast mixes over the years, it's safe to say that a wide variety of acts have contributed to the series, from intriguing up-and-comers (some of which were never heard from again) to indisputable electronic music legends. And though we're generally quite enthusiastic about all of our podcasts, we're not ashamed to admit that our anticipation levels do spike when someone particularly exciting agrees to participate. Today is one of those instances, as this week's mix was delivered by UK producer and Werkdiscs boss Darren Cunningham (a.k.a. Actress).

David Crosby may have one of the most cherished voices in rock history, but it's rare for listeners to hear it alone. His new solo studio album, Croz, is only his fourth such release in more than 50 years of making music.

Discovering Steve Anderson

I had never heard of Steve Anderson until today. Now I know his music thanks to the Free Music Archive. Check out the link below for an interview and a free download of his latest album.

Steve Anderson - Late Night Girl

Steve Anderson - Late Night Girl (Studio 11 Classics)
As a major contributor to the Studio 11 music engineering team, Steve Anderson has also found time to produce his own collection of top notch tunes. Not only does Steve have a fabulous voice, he is a consumate musical producer as well. Of the innovative collections that Steve has produced, his album "Late Night Girl" best sums up his vocal abilities and production skills.

FM's "Rocket Roll", the perfect marriage of sci-fi and prog rock

FM was a late 1970's progressive rock trio from Toronto. They were the opening act in the first rock concert I ever went to: Saga's 1981 concert in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This song and video combine two nerdy passions of mine: progressive rock and science fiction.

Ambien Dreams And Naked Desert Walks: St. Vincent On Her New Album, interview by Robert Hilton and Bob Boilen

The first posting on this blog is about an artist I never knew existed until I heard her interviewed on NPR's All Songs Considered.
El primer posteo en este blog es sobre una artista cuya existencia yo ignoraba hasta que oí esta entrevista radial.

Teased late last year in a series of cryptic status updates, the forthcoming self-titled album from St. Vincent is one of the most anticipated of 2014. In a conversation withAll Songs Considered hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton, singer and guitarist Annie Clark gets into the stories behind the new record, due out Feb. 25.
