Maayan Nidam

http://dublab.com/maayan-nidam-guest-hosting-elevation-through-sound-03-30-16/

Maayan Nidam, an artist in flux, continues to change, evolve and challenge boundaries both in her Berlin studio and on stage. She has built a reputation as a fine DJ and producer who favours a subtle approach towards mesmeric moments.

Her DJ sets, predominantly based in stripped-back, deep sounds, utilise an intriguing vinyl collection, using obscure interludes for re-contextualisation. This approach makes for some magical moments on the dance-floor, where a night’s highlight may come from the most unlikely of tracks.

As a musician obsessed about sound and the technology behind its creation, her workflow places a strong focus on the studio environment. Triggering chain reactions between guitar pedals, drum machines, modular synths and acoustic instruments, generating sounds in unpredictable, exciting ways.

Inspired by her 2014 performances as The Waves with an accompanying band, Maayan has developed a solo live set that allows her to further her studio experiments and take them on the road. With a flexibly evolving range of hardware, she re-creates the spontaneous frame of her productions, delving deep into the possibilities of live dubbing and improvisation, keeping the performance exciting for both the crowd and Maayan herself.

Antal

http://dublab.com/events/43284/antal-dublab-set/

Amsterdam’s Rush Hour founder Antal is a hugely versatile DJ that can wave together house and techno or Afro and disco just as ably. He’s been doing it since the Nineties and has done so from the States to Australia, Europe to Asia at the same time as digging deep into many musical forms away from the dance. For those in the know, Rush Hour – the label he runs with a close group of key people – is a faultless record label and cherished store. As well as releasing the most exciting new music, the label is famed for its on-point re-issues of forgotten old classics whilst the shop stocks records bought on crate digging trips around the world.

Z-Trip – Live dublab Mix (02.25.00)

https://www.mixcloud.com/dublab/from-the-vaults-z-trip-live-dublab-mix-022500/

Head nodding, 90s-style turntablism at its best. The legendary Zach Sciacca aka Z-Trip dropped into dublab one day in February 2000 to scratch-up 2.5 hours of rap, hip-hop, trip hop, funk, soul and everything else that slaps. The session remains a master class in selecting, beat matching and cutting for heads past and present. Plus, it’s a great afternoon listen.
The sheer number of tracks and the range of sounds may leave you in awe, but Z-Trip’s taste is off the charts. Classic hip-hop meets deep cuts like “Stunts, Blunts, and Hip hop” by Diamond & The Psychotic Neurotics. Gems like Bjork and Dobie’s “I Miss You (Dobie’s Rub Part 2 – It’s a Hip Hop Thing,” Xzibit’s “What U See Is What You Get” and People Under the Stairs’ “Time to Rock Our Shit” mix it up with Z-Trip’s Sabbath-sampling “Rockstar” and smooth electronic shit like Gary Wright’s “Love is Alive?” Meanwhile, Ballistic Brothers’ “Blacker” makes an appearance from the acid jazz realm, alongside other DJ cuts like “Funk Box (We Want to Hear the Beat Box” by the 45 King. Even Talking Heads and The Police make it to the party.

Jimmy Tamborello – Dying Songs, May 26 2016

DYING_SONGS_new_header_v4
“Dying Songs” focuses on melancholic electronic music but isn’t limited to that. Sometimes it gets dark, sometimes I try to mix techno awkwardly, sometimes i get nostalgic… I like stuff that’s dreamy, ghostly, pretty and sad. I’ll try out new productions of my own, as well. I’m keeping it pretty open and we’ll see how it evolves.” – Jimmy

Music for Train Stations feat: Electric Sound Bath & Richard Chartier

CW_160311_1391

The Waiting Room at downtown’s iconic Union Station was transformed into an immersive sensory sound experience this past March when Metro Art Presents partners with dublab for the series “Music For Train Stations”.

The program is inspired by Brian Eno’s 1978 ambient masterpiece, “Music for Airports,” which was designed with the intent of defusing the tense, anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal with loops of subtle sound including piano, voice and other instruments. Our program is both an homage to Eno and a contemporary interpretation of his concept applied within the frenetic energy and architectural splendor of Union Station.

This recording features special performances from Electric Sound Bath and a DJ set by Richard Chartier.

Tim “Love” Lee – Live dublab Mix

Tim “Love” Lee – Live dublab Mix (02.20.03)

Producer, keyboardist and label head Tim Lee managed to spin a half-dozen live mixes in the realm of trip-hop/lounge/electronica at dublab between 1999 and 2003, beginning with the acid-house and lounge vibes prevalent at the time among artists like Groove Armada and on his imprint Tummy Touch Records.
But after the release of Lee’s second album Just Call Me Lone Lee, his selections at dublab broadened to feature a wider variety of funk, jazz and electronic sounds from über progressive cuts like Max Tundra’s “Lysine” to stone cold classics like “Country Girl” by Johnny Otis. Interspersed are, naturally, Tim “Love” Lee originals and other loungey Tummy Touch releases like Dolphin Boy’s “Shake It Loose.” It’s an altogether “Love” Lee mix.
